BOOTs Y. PASCUAL (Director). is probably more known to members of the Filipino community as the director of the no-budget production of two Filipino one-act plays in translation performed last year entitled Pas de 2 and his recent performance of dramatic monologues of various characters fromDr. Jose P. To Hawai’i’s theatre community in general, he is still remembered for his critically acclaimed performances as Master Ford in Shakespeare’s The Merry Wives of Windsor, Max in Martin Sherman’s Bent, and the Dandy in the Japanese kabuki play, Sukeroku: Flower of Edo. Though without a theatre degree
yet, Boots was actually a part of the massive movement that revived and re-invented theatre in the Philippines in the mid-1970s. His contributions to the theatre of the diaspora included directing and performing in plays while a resident of Berlin, Germany. Just to create space for some Philippine theatre performance here, he enrolled at one time in an Intermediate Directing class at UH. He authored the different proposals that got funding for this production of Sigaw ng Bayan and, if given the chance and resources, would like to collaborate on making the training in and performance of Philippine theatre traditions a regular and ongoing undertaking in the state. He obtained his Ph.D. in Political Science from UHM and lectures at the UHM Department of Political Science and for the Filipino and Philippine Literature Program. His mad efforts in this production are all inspired by his mother and LINDISSIMO.
